EU revises rules for materials that come into contact with food

EU food safety policy includes rules on materials in contact with food (e.g. food packaging, kitchen and tableware, and food processing equipment).

The aim of this initiative is to modernise the rules to

  • ensure food safety and a high level of protection of public health
  • reduce the presence and use of hazardous chemicals
  • take into account the latest science and technology
  • support innovation and sustainability by promoting safe reusable solutions and helping to reduce the sector's impact on the environment.
