Brexit

Brexit still creates problems for Danish companies

Danish export companies still have major problems with the new rules and laws in the UK after Brexit.

With the transition to the new situation during Brexit, the authorities in the UK have chosen to take the existing registration regulations from the EU as a basis, and have made it possible for exporting companies to transfer product registrations directly to the new British registers one by one. However, the deadline for this expired at the end of October, which means that if a company has not registered its goods within the time frame, all products on the shelves that are not registered correctly must in effect be withdrawn, and the company must start over by registering its products again in relation to chemical content, product safety and handling and storage.

This is a major administrative challenge for most companies. Mediator can handle contact with authorities and other stakeholders in the UK.

Danish representation in England

Mediator helps several of our clients with representation in England.
Eg. Australian Bodycare which has marketed more than 1995 skincare products on the British market since 100. As a leading supplier in their field, it is the highest priority for the company that they comply with British regulations and guidelines. With Brexit, Australia Bodycare has become extra challenged. They have chosen to collaborate with Mediator, where we are the responsible person for them in Great Britain. This means that Mediator continuously follows the legislation for Australia Bodycare, so they can focus on what they are good at instead of worrying about whether they are in compliance with the latest legislative change. Both British legislation and their products are under control. Since Mediator has a physical address in Great Britain, we can be the Only Representative for Australia Bodycare.

As a Danish company in the British market, you must pay particular attention to:

  1. Re-registration of products already on the market after the registration deadline has expired: from 2 hours and up per product depending on complexity. In addition, the company must keep up to date with UK legislation.
  2. If one or more products need to be recalled: It can be expensive – a recall often costs from 000-250.000 DKK. In addition, there is incalculable damage to reputation, as well as possible poor press coverage.

Contact Mediator if you are in doubt about the rules regarding Brexit and exports to the United Kingdom.
