ECHA supports approval of ethanol in disinfectants

ECHA's Biocidal Products Committee (BPC) has concluded that ethanol can be approved as an active substance in hand and surface disinfectants. The final decision will be taken by the European Commission based on the opinion. However, the Committee did not decide whether ethanol should be classified as carcinogenic or toxic for reproduction, which may still have implications for future regulation and use.
