Bisphenol A and other bisphenols – use, risks and upcoming EU ban

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an endocrine disruptor and can damage fertility, which has led to it being placed on the EU's list of substances of very high concern. BPA is used to soften plastics in, among other things, food and beverage packaging. It has long been banned in products for young children, and now the EU is tightening the rules further with a ban from July 2026 on BPA in certain food contact materials. New requirements for declarations of conformity are also being introduced.
